Article #1.

Mapping Your Stress

Mapping your stress involves self-exploration. Consider yourself an explorer as we delve deeply into what is wrong and how to correct it.

You are the expert in stress as it applies to your business and your life. I will give you my definition of the word stress in a future article. Your definition of stress as far as how it affects you is what is really important at this point in your stress annihilation training.

Begin by answering this question, "What does stress feel like to you?" Answer the following question so we both understand what is wrong and how to fix it.

Feel free to print out this article and fill in the blank or you can just copy the questions an begin a journal on your successful "stress annihilation."

Exercise 1.1. Feeling What You Feel About Stress

1: What does stress feel like to you? ( For example, "Stress feels like a heavy weight on my back)

2. How does stress affect me emotionally? (For example, I get short with my staff when I am emotionally affected by stress) Are you always calm and steady in your interactions with people while stressed? Do you vent on managers, directors, subordinates, family members...etc? How do you feel emotionally, when stressed?

3. How is stress affecting my body physically? Do I have headaches, psoriasis, asthma, digestive problems, eating problems, sleep deprivation, back ache, high blood pressure...etc?

Mapping Your Stress Exercise:

Now, complete the exercise in mapping your stress. You need to find out what you need to change before you change it. By mapping your stress you will not only identify problem areas but also begin to chip away at annihilating stress as your body awareness increases.

Begin to think about how your stress manifests changes in your body. Think about how you feel as you become stressed.

Think about your your head for a moment. When you are stressed, how does your head feel? Do you get headaches or stiffness in your jaw or neck?

Now allow your thoughts to travel down to your chest. When you are stressed out, do you experience  shortness of breath? Do you get any pain in your chest? (If so, see a medical doctor immediately)

Think about your stomach area. Do you suffer from indigestion? Are you putting unhealthy foods in your body? Write your thoughts down on paper. How about your back muscles? Do you suffer from upper of lower back pain? Do you see a chiropractor and how often does this happen?

Now think about your legs for a moment. Do you get cramps in your legs? When I was in high school and was on a date, my legs would tighten up and I would get cramps so badly, I could hardly walk. This would usually happen when I was sitting down having dinner with my date. Even though I was only eighteen, I knew it was from stress of being on a date. Why it affected my legs, I may never know why.

Some people get terrible cramps in their feet. Do you get any tightness or cramps in your feet? If so, write it down.

Now think about your memory. Do you forget things easily when you are stressed? Do you get so rattled you forget the easiest things like where you set down your car keys or someone's name.

Can you think of any other effects of stress to your mind or body? Can you think of any other emotional manifestations of stress? Write them down now.

You have successfully taken the first step in annihilating stress. There will be additional steps and exercises. Follow those steps and exercises in numerical order.

Summary:

Mapping stress throughout your mind and body. Write down the questions and answers and create a file in Microsoft Word, note pad, or your favorite word processing program. Write it down in a paper or online journal. Keep this information handy as we will work together in annihilating your stress.
